Scar stories
I love hearing about bumps and bruises. They make people more human and characterize where they were when the mark occurred. Beyond a string around your finger or a note written on your hand, they are reminders of what we were and where we came from. I have quite a beauty of a scar on my neck, and it will always remind me of what I’ve gone through (illness) and what I have to live for.

My week in jury duty.
The past week I was a little tied up because of jury duty. It was one of the most intense things I’ve ever been through. I’m trying to find the words to describe the entire experience, but they aren’t coming as fast as I’d like. Let me put it this way: The charge was first degree rape and the victim was a 29-year-old mentally challenged woman with cerebral palsy. Yeah

Bunch Of Phonies Mourn J.D. Salinger | The Onion -... →
“In this big dramatic production that didn’t do anyone any good (and was pretty embarrassing, really, if you think about it), thousands upon thousands of phonies across the country mourned the death of author J.D. Salinger, who was 91 years old for crying out loud.”

GEAUX SAINTS!!!!
acewepeel: lukenif: Congratulations to the city of New Orleans, and all those Katrina victims, it is truly a blessing to see this happen!!! LOL if we’re gonna be like that, I was rooting for the Vikings because of all the victims of the Minneapolis bridge collapse a few years ago. They won 10 minutes ago, and making Katrina references has already gotten on my nerves. It is just as tone...

Things I love.
I was in the shower this morning and was thinking about the book I finished last night, “Singularity’s Ring,” by Paul Melko. As my mind started to wander I deconstructed all the narrative themes and metaphors I could remember and trying to figure out what Melko’s influences and comparable writers were (Arthur C. Clarke; Cory Doctorow and Kage Baker, if you are...

Conan's Exit Confirmed - The Daily Beast  →
The NBC-Leno-Conan war is close to ending, according to a knowledgeable source. According to the outlines of a settlement, Conan O’Brien will leave NBC and the network will make an as-yet unspecified payment. The comedian will be free to appear elsewhere on television well before his contract expires, despite earlier threats from NBC that it would prevent him from working anywhere...

Some good insights beyond the “clash of the titans” or ”David vs. Goliath” narratives we’ve been seeing a lot of. I wouldn’t be surprised if Conan paid his staffers out of pocket during the dark days between the Tonight Show and where he lands next. Also,...

What I've learned, in order:
Paying attention is important Lust isn’t the same thing as caring Just because you want something to be, doesn’t mean you can make it that way You can be right and still be completely wrong Some things have fixed lifespans Sometimes you have to do the right thing even though it feels wrong.

THIS SIMPLY CANNOT BE. →
(via daveholmes) The obvious answer is to cut Jay Leno loose and give back the 10 PM slot to hour long dramas, which incentivizes people to actually turn in to Conan’s Tonight Show at 11:30. RIght now, Leno eats into Conan’s numbers and leaves both shows underachieving in the ratings. That said, NBC is scared shitless about the idea of competing with Letterman and Leno at a...
