Quick thoughts:
I really hope she didn’t say things last night to placate me and then disappear forever. Why is being scared of love always a bad thing? Sometimes being a little scared shows how much potential there is. I want to live an optimistic life where I can be there for someone. That does not make me a doormat.

One last micro-blog post before bed.
I can’t figure out how to make long posts work with the format and presentation value of Tumblr, so I’ve decided to try making a series of shorter posts without the urge to thread them together in a giant update. Considering this site is for me and maybe three other people, I’m not sure it makes a difference either way. On the subject of Lauren, though, I have a few things that I...

Merry X-mas
Tonight Ryan, William and I exchanged gifts. What started out as a lark has turned into one of my favorite parts of the holidays. The three of us might have trouble figuring out what to get our respective parents and extended families, but that isn’t the case in such a small group. Ryan got William the previously mentioned Rivers demo album and got me Philip K. Dick’s VALIS Trilogy....

Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo
This entire album of demos is worth it for “Longtime Sunshine” alone. Even better, about three quarters of the tracks are really good, too. I Was Made For You is another standout track. As Rivers writes, it has “a beautiful chorus melody” that I can’t get enough of.  The liner notes are an amazingly clear look into more than fifteen years of songwriting. In between...

A musical barometer.
I listened to Sufjan Stevens last night before bed to calm my nerves and today I’m listening to Rooney’s first album. I have a feeling that I’ll probably have “If It Were Up to Me” stuck in my head until I talk to Lauren next.

I think I’m going to shelve Critical Theory and Science Fiction and move on to A Game of Thrones full time. How hard is it to say that existential thought influenced science fiction? REALLY. Re-read: Green Lantern: Rebirth - I couldn’t help myself after finishing up the Sinestro Corps War. This is what a modern DC Comic book should be.

Re: my "it's not cool to like fun things" post
Do you agree?  WHY do people make fun of me for liking pink or enjoying my small puppy dog or wanting to celebrate the holiday season, instead of complaining about how much of a pain it is? I’m serious, I want to figure this out.  — juliaallison These days people define themselves just as much by what they like as what they dislike (or even hate).  I’m not pretending to know why this...

Social Not Working
No social network makes it easy to represent yourself, as an individual, on the web. They are good at helping you represent yourself as an entry in some database-system. Whether that system is a sterile spreadsheet or a bubbling cesspool is determined by your choice of Facebook or MySpace. — jakoblodwick
